Background and Challenges

With the development of cities, a large number of power/water/gas/heat users are increasing, users are scattered, and management is inconvenient. The traditional meter reading method needs to invest a lot of labor and time cost, so an automatic, convenient and advanced stopwatch mode is urgently needed.

  • The traditional manual meter reading method is inefficient, which often leads to missing and wrong copying.
  • The traditional manual meter reading method needs to invest a lot of labor cost, consumes a lot of time and is inefficient.
  • The traditional meter reading method needs to arrange a large number of cables, which greatly increases the cost of meter reading, and the user is scattered and remote, which makes the wiring very inconvenient.

Based on customer’s need, HELIOS recommends its Industrial cellular DTU (Data Transfer Unit, also called IP modem) HD210 series, which is based 4G/3G/2.5G cellular network to help customer solve their concerns.

System Architecture

  • Front-end data collection and transmission

Includes smart meter, HELIOS HD210 DTU Series, device housing, etc. The main function of this part is to collect the data from meter and transfer the data through HD210 over 4G/3G/CDMA/GPRS cellular network to data center.

  • Data center and management

Includes data server, application server, monitors, etc., this is for data storage, analysis, display, etc.
